Ms. Jeanette Bird, age 93, passed away on December 29, 2022, at her residence in Jesup. The native of Candler County grew up on a family farm near Aline. It is said that she grew up only knowing how to work. In fact, her mother gave birth while working in the cotton field! Her life would take her from the family farm in Aline to Savannah, Alabama, and finally settling down for the remainder of her life in Jesup. Jeanette was always a very hard worker, and when she moved to Alabama, she knew she needed a job. To that end, she went into a local Red Lobster, never applying for a job or speaking with management, she just went to work! Seeing her determination and ethic for hard work, the manager put her on payroll without question. This drive to always be working kept her tending her yard and doing various tasks around her home well into her late 80’s. She is preceded in death by her parents, Noah, and Henrietta (Lloyd) Bird; a son, Harold Hill; and a daughter, Troynett Carone.
Left to cherish the memories of a life well lived is her son, Larry (Violet) Hill of Reidsville; a daughter, Geraldine Hill of TN; grandchildren, Jessie Hill of Jesup and Connie Lynn of Waycross; several nieces and nephews; other friends and family also survive.
The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00pm on Monday, January 2, 2023, with the funeral services to follow at 2:00om from the Chapel of Low Country Cremation and Burial with Dr. Charles Jonas officiating.
Interment will follow the funeral service at Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Aline.
