Jerry C. Davis of Shellmans Bluff, Georgia passed away on Thursday October 12, 2023 at the age of 81. He was surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer being cared for at the Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick, Ga.
He developed a love for the outdoors early in life as an avid hunter and fisherman. After graduating from Ludowici High School in 1962, he began his career as a forester with the Georgia Forestry commission. He later ventured out on his own and founded two timber companies Colonial Timberlands and Whispering Pine Farms. He finished his career with the State of Georgia Food Services Division as the Department of Corrections Farm Administrator where he retired in 2001. He and his wife, Judy enjoyed traveling the U.S in their R.V. They had many adventures together including those in Alaska and Hawaii.
He grew up in a humble setting in Bulltown, Long County, GA. In high school he was known as the piano player, vocalist, a member of the quartet and was offered a chance to play for the Phillies in 1961.
He developed a love for the outdoors early in life as an avid hunter in the Bull Town hunting club. He loved fishing which brought him back to Shellman’s Bluff, Townsend GA where he and his wife of 60 years have lived for the last decade with their beloved dog Shadow.
He was dedicated to his family. Teaching his kids, grandkids and great grandkids the love for God. Jerry will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Judy; his children, Melanie (Jeff), Tina (Mike) and Broc (Pam); and his grandchildren, Amber (Nathan), Garrett (Kelley) and Brant; and his great-grand children Ella and Emilee. His sister Pat Morris and brother Larry (Jean) Davis. Many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a member of Shellman Bluff Baptist Church.
A memorial funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Low Country Cremation and Burial. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00pm.
