Mr. Jerry C. Howard, age 77, passed away Monday, June 21, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Solace Hospice.  He was born November 8, 1943 in Ludowici to Hampton Columbus and Bertha M. Brannen Howard and had lived all of his life in Long County.  He retired from CSX Railroad as an Inspector after 37 and ½ years of service.  He was an avid hunter, fisherman and was a former member of Beards Creek Hunting Club where he served as President for 26 years and was a member of Ohoopee Hunting Club where he served 2 years as Vice President. When Mr. Jerry was not at the hunting club you could find him working in his garden or at a gospel sing. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 58 years, Janette Blocker Howard and his sister, Mary Howard Groover.

Mr. Jerry is survived by his children, Lee (Sandra) Howard, Lynette (Wendell) Colson and Michelle (Stuart) Bland all of Long County; brothers, Stephen “Baxter” Howard and Dennis (Donna) Howard both of Long County; grandchildren, Jerrod (Diedra) Howard, Ethan (Allee) Colson, Westley (Jessica) Bland, Jordan (Morgan) Bland, Dylan Colson and Adam Bland; great grandchildren, Ella and Sophia Bland, Maggie Bland, Saylor and Anna Deloach, Jaylyn Fuller and Avery Kate Colson; his faithful canine companion, Tiny; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00pm on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at the Glennville Funeral Home with the funeral services to follow at 2:00pm with Brother Kenny Long and  Reverend Jerry Knight officiating.  Interment will follow in the Grace Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jerrod Howard, Ethan Colson, Westley Bland, Jordan Bland, Dylan Colson, Adam Bland, and Bobby Parker.

Honorary pallbearers will be Clay Long, Irbie Moody, Charles Moody, Glenn Smith, Mike Howard, and former members of Beards Creek Hunting Club.

Memorials may be given to Solace Hospice, 101 McIntosh Street Vidalia, GA 30474.
