Joe Lanzo “Cookie Joe” Searcy

Joe passed away Saturday, May 17, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his family and under the care of Hospice of the Golden Isles, Brunswick.

Joe was born April 10, 1956. He was the son of the Late Willie Morris Searcy and Lala Hobbs Searcy. Joe is survived by his mother, Lala Searcy; four brothers: Willie (Dorothy) of Brunswick, Esau (Sandra) of Atlanta, Ralph and Kenneth, both of Brunswick; five sisters: Mary (Carlton) Miller, Laurice (James-deceased) Williams of DeKalb, TX, Patricia (James) Lewis of Charlotte, NC, Velita (Graham) Degraft of Syracuse, NY and Gwendolyn (Gus – deceased) Whalon of Bunn, NC, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Willie Searcy and brother, Jacob Lamont.

Joe attended Glynn Academy and served four years in the U.S. Army Air Reserve (Ft. Sill, OK) and was honorably discharged in 1979. He was self-employed.

Friends may visit with the family at Mount Olive Baptist Church, 1926 Stonewall St, Brunswick, GA 31520 on Saturday, May 24 from 1 to 2 pm. The memorial service will be at 2 pm at the church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
