Joey Clyde Anderson, age 63, passed away at his residence on Sunday, January 10, 2021. The Tattnall County native lived his entire life in and around the Reidsville area. In 1976, Joey graduated from Reidsville High School and set out on his career path which would lead him down a winding road to his retirement. He began after high school working with CSX Railroad, where he would work for over 10 years. Wanting to be closer to home, he left the railroad to run a crew with Hercules Stump Service. Once again, however, adventure and the open road harkened him back and he became and owner/operator of a trucking business. Getting older, Joey found great joy in serving others. He was an active member of the Rising Sun Lodge #32 and the Tattnall Shrine Club. In order to have more time for service, Joey sold his truck and began working for the Tattnall County Road Department for a brief period before setting down with the Georgia Department of Transportation where he would ultimately retire in 2015 due to his declining health. Even while battling health issues, Joey could be found cooking for various fundraisers and serving on several offices within the Lodge and the Shrine Club. No matter what task he was working on, you could count on seeing a smile on his face. Perhaps that smile was biggest though when he dressed as “The Grinch” in various Christmas parades. Additionally, he attended Collins Full Gospel Church. A gentle soul with a sincere smile, Joey will be deeply missed by all. He is preceded in death by his father, Clyde Anderson and a brother-in-law, Keith Strickland.
Joey is survived by his mother, Anglyn Anderson of Reidsville; sisters, Jo Ann Strickland of Claxton and Susan Waters(Keller Wilcox) of Collins; companion, Joy Phillips; nephews and nieces, Rashe (Amanda) Collins of Claxton, Adam (Nicole) Cowart of Glennville, Abbey (Lee) Johnson of Reidsville and Harley (Kaleb) Smith of Statesboro; a chosen son, Charles (Jane) Scott of SC; several great nieces, nephews and many friends.
