Collins
Captain John Bernard Gooding, Jr. was born in Savannah, GA to the late John Bernard Gooding Sr. and Mildred C. Gooding and graduated from Savannah High School and the School of the South in Suwannee TN. He joined the United States Air Force and served in different parts of the world including Vietnam. After serving in the Air Force, he started a new career in the banking industry and ended up in Tacoma, WA as a commercial real estate loan officer. About 20 years ago he was diagnosed with Parkinson disease and he has fought a long and courageous battle and just after midnight on July 1 GOD opened Heaven's door.
John enjoyed Gulf Fly Fishing, golf, hiking, all kinds of nature, and adopting animals. According to John he has lived the last years of his life for one thing, the love of his life Tuffy his long and faithful cat that has stuck by him through the good and bad. John lived the last year and a half in Collins, GA with his sister and brother-in-law who provided for him 24/7 to try to make things better for him and Tuffy. John loved "road trips" going with Jim on the road to auctions and peddling jams, jellies, and other merchandise to roadside vendors throughout Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, and Tennessee and was a partner in Cowart’s Farm Fresh Produce.
John is survived by his sister, Brenda G. Cowart and brother-in-law Jim Cowart and Tuffy of Collins GA as well as numerous cousins and special friends Cody Oglesby and his mom Kristi who made the road trips to help take care of John while Jim was busy with customers.
Go rest high on that mountain. You fought the fight to the very end and won the victory. Thank you, Lord, for the 74 years you allowed John to roam this old Earth. Tuffy will be living with Brenda and Jim.
A private interment service will be held at Georgia Veteran Cemetery in Glennville GA.
Remembrances can be made to the Humane Society in John's memory.
