Reidsville,
Mr. John Kirkley age 79, passed away Friday, July 4, 2014 at the Community Hospice House surrounded by his family. The Toombs County native had lived in Reidsville most of his life. He retired from the Department of Corrections in 1995 after thirty years of service. He loved fishing, hunting, and playing with his grandchildren. Mr. Johnny is preceded in death by his parents, Monroe and Elsie Kirkley; his first wife Vonnell Mosley Kirkley; brother Claude “T-Model” Kirkley; sister Matalice “Tency” Cox.
He is survived by his wife Cecile Lovett Kirkley of Reidsville; daughters Samantha K. (Chris) Gordy of Cedar Crossing, Loretta K. (Seth) Boyett, and Denise K. (Allen) Harrelson all of Reidsville; sisters Shelby (Larry) Stephens of Lyons, Geraldine “Geri” Kirkley of Cedar Crossing, Christine “Christy” (Ray) Wood of Mt. Vernon, Faye (Ray) Neesmith of Cedar Crossing, Kaye (Alvin) Hitchcock of Cedar Crossing, and Kathy (John) Rentz of Hazelhurst; grandchildren Nicole “Nikki” (David) Harris of Cobbtown, Brittany Boyett of Riverdale, and Sarah Harrelson of Reidsville; great grandchildren DJ, Chase, Jaedin, Braylen, and Constance; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will begin at 6:00pm on Saturday from the Reidsville Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00pm Sunday, July 6, 2014 from the Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home & Crematory with the Reverends David Moxley, Wes Collins, Karen Zeigler and Reece Mincey officiating. Interment will follow in the Cedar Crossing Church of God Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chet Cox, Rodney Hitchcock, Melvin Kirkley, Lester Partin, Donnie Mosley and David “DJ” Harris, Jr.
Memorials may be given to Tattnall CARES or Friendship Baptist Church Building Fund.
