Ellabell,
John Edward Monroe, 78, died on May 29, 2019 at Memorial Health University in Savannah. He was born in Savannah to Charles and Lois Coley Monroe. After graduation from high school, he joined the Marines and served in Vietnam. He was injured while in the Marines and was classified as a Disabled Veteran. Once he was out of the service, he went to work and retired from Bell South. John will be remembered for his devotion to his family.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Barbara Jean Monroe, sons, Dewayne Whittington, Robert Whittington, Danny Whittingon, all of Ellabell, Stephen, Marietta, Sisters, Judy Jones, Elberon Virginia, Edna Dailey, Cornelia, brothers, Charles H. Monroe, Jimmy Monroe, both of Guyton, Robert Monroe, Texas, grandchildren Whitney Marie Whittington, John Robert Whittington, both of Ellabell, Julian Whittington, Jackson, Jordan Whittington, Madison, great- granddaughter, Evelyn, numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held 12:00pm Friday, June 21, 2019 from the Chapel of Glennville Funeral Home with the Reverend Albert Hill officiating. Interment will follow at 1:00pm at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery with military honors rendered by the US Marine Corps.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
