John Charles Tice, Sr. passed away after a long illness on October 10 th , 2016. John was born to George and Marie Tice in June of 1947. He served his country as a Marine during Vietnam and was a Purple Heart recipient. Several years later he joined the U.S. Army and retired as a Warrant Officer in 1976. In the years following his military retirement, he served as a service officer for the Disabled American Veterans. His heart always went out to those who were willing to serve their country. John believed in faith and family. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, Midway, Georgia. He was always the first to lend a hand to someone in need such as a relief worker after hurricanes Andrew and Hugo. He was also a great animal lover. John and his wife Cile were active in Scottish Terrier rescue until he became ill. He leaves behind his faithful Scottie, Rugs and a cat, Smokey. John married his wife Cile in October of 1981. They enjoyed doing many things together such as going to the beach and fishing.
John is survived by his wife Cile, daughters Michelle Thaggard (Lonnie) ,Fayetteville , N.C., Jennifer Carteaux, Jacksonville, N.C., son John Tice, Jr., sisters Betty Waterman (Bob), Marlow, GA, Georgiana Craven, Charleston, S. C., and a brother Tommy Tice(Donna), W.V., grandchildren Samantha and Andrew Tice, Jacksonville, N.C. Kenneth Hill, Mariah Drummond, Jamylah Jones, Shanelle Barber and Mikwan Burton. He was also a favorite uncle to numerous loving nieces and nephews.
A service celebrating John’s life will be held on Saturday, October 15 th at 12:00 noon at Fleming Baptist Church, Midway, GA. The family will receive visitors from 11:00-12:00 at the church.
The family wishes to give special thanks to Coastal Home Care and his special caregivers Mary Schafer, Deja Stroman and Heather Reed.
