Johnnie Ashton Mincey, Jr., age 90, passed away on November 21, 2023, at the Community Hospice Inpatient Center. He was born on February 8, 1933, in Sylvania, GA to Johnnie Sr. and Eunice Jeffers Mincey. He was reared in Sylvania where he graduated in 1950 from Screven County High School.
A true patriot and defender of freedom, Mr. Johnnie served with honor in the United States Navy for six years. His dedication to his country and fellow Americans is commendable and serves as a testament to his selflessness.
He served as a firefighter for the Oakdale California Fire Department. He worked in the field of telecommunications for over 30 years before retiring. After his retirement from the phone company, Mr. Johnnie went on to work as a correctional officer for the Georgia Department of Corrections serving 10 years.
Throughout his life, Mr. Johnnie prioritized his community and faith. He was an esteemed member of the Reidsville Baptist Church and actively participated in various church activities.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, by his beloved wife of 40 years, Connie Strickland Mincey; daughter, Carol Mincey; siblings, Rev. Harold Mincey and Winona Hodges.
His memory will be cherished by his sons, Jay Mincey and Hunter (Tonya) Mincey, all residing in Reidsville; siblings, Cindy Parker of Juliette, GA, Joe Mincey of Simpsonville, SC, and David (Cynthia) Mincey of Macon; grandchildren, Sam Mincey, Tina (Ronnie) Waters, Jase Mincey, Renee Mincey, Tara Mincey, Zack Sisson (Natalie), Brad Anderson, Jasper (Andrea) Phillips, Jesse (Lindsay) Phillips, Jessica (Randall) Kirkland, Sheldon Phillips, Dalton Phillips and Presley Phillips; numerous great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The graveside funeral service to honor the life of Johnnie Ashton Mincey Jr. will be held 2:00pm on Sunday November 26, 2023 at Reidsville City Cemetery in Reidsville, GA with Dr. Charles Jonus officiating.
