Johnnie C. Powell, age 74 passed away Sunday, September 25, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. He was born in Glennville on October 12, 1947 to Morgan and Mary Bacon Powell and had lived in Tattnall County all of his life. Johnnie was a US Army veteran and retired from the Department of Transportation after 15 plus years of service. In his spare time, he enjoyed cutting grass, putting together model cars, hunting, fishing and especially spending time with his family. He was of the Baptist faith and is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jimmie Powell and his grandchild, Skyler Dasher.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Elvie Powell of Glennville; children, Lisa (Kenny) Duffany of Glennville, Dewayne (Tammy) Powell of Glennville, Nancy (Justin) Durden of Dublin and Gina (Jason) Gordy of Sylvania; sibling, Jean Powell of Sylvania; sister-in-law, Kathy Collins of Glennville; 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Family will receive friends beginning at 6:00pm on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00pm, Wednesday, September 28, 2022 from the Chapel of Glennville Funeral Home with Dr. Rick Cason officiating. Interment will follow in Glennville Memorial Gardens with military honors rendered by the US Army.
Pallbearers will be Dylan Duffany, Josh Powell, Keith Stanfield, Jacob Duffany, Noah Duffany, Hunter Dasher and Bryson Powell.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tattnall C.A.R.E.S, PO Box 2356 Reidsville, GA. 30453.
