Joseph A. Dickey

August 7, 1962 — December 6, 2014

Tattnall County,

Sergeant Major Joe Dickey, Georgia National Guard, age 52, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 6, 2014.  The Colorado native had lived in Hinesville most of his life moving to Tattnall County in 2009.   For his professional career he was maintenance supervisor with MATES at Fort Stewart.  In addition to his civil service to our country, he was also currently serving in uniform with the National Guard, for a remarkable 30 years.  During which time he defended the American way of life in Bosnia and Iraq.   Needless to say he was a workaholic.  In his free time, he was active with the Boy Scouts of America Troop 930, a devoted member of Pine Grove Baptist Church of Reidsville, and a Gideon.   What little time remained in the day, he loved tending his pecan farm, playing golf, hunting, and fishing.  SGM Dickey was preceded in death by his mother, Carol Dickey and a brother-in-law, Robert Nelson.

He is survived by his wife of 31yrs, Gina Dickey; father, Otto B. “Toby” Dickey both of Tattnall County; Children, Matthew (Sarah) Dickey of Hinesville, Chad (Angel) Dickey, Brandon Dickey and Aidan Dickey all of Tattnall County; sister, Theresa (Steve) Fongeallaz of Valdosta; grandchildren, Mkayla and MKensie Jordan and Emily Dickey; brothers-in-law, Anthony (Deborah) Caruso of Savannah, Michael (Doreen) Caruso of Chickmauga, GA, Mark Caruso of Tattnall County, and Karl (Karen) Nelson of Guyton;  sisters-in-law, Marion (Billy) Caruso of St. Augustine, FL and Carol (Nick) Caruso of Tattnall County; several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends on Thursday beginning at 6:00pm from the Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home & Crematory.  Funeral services will be conducted 2:00pm Friday, December 12, 2014 from the Reidsville Church of God with the Reverend David Moxley officiating.  Full military rites will be rendered.
