Joseph Thomas Rae

Joseph Thomas Rae, Sr., 86, of Bluffton, SC passed away at Savannah Hospice on May 18, 2015 after a short illness. He was preceded in death by his beloved first wife and mother of his children, Irene Sara Rae; his parents, Thomas James and Etta Rae; his brother, John.

He was born in Scranton PA and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. He was a successful national sales manager for Standard Oil of Ohio before starting a family business in 1981 with his son. The business still remains today led by his son and daughter.

He was an extraordinary husband, father, grandfather, and uncle who received such joy from family gatherings and adventures. His love of travel brought he and his family to many places thru his well lived life. The friendships he made were numerous and deeply valued by him. He was the epitome of a gentle man.

He is survived by loving wife, Elizabeth Sheehan Rae; his son, Joseph Jr. and his wife Liz of Franklin, MA; daughter, Kelly McCarthy and her husband Mike of Topsham, ME daughter, Polly of Trumbull, CT and daughter, Tami McGowan and her husband Bill of Taunton, MA; He is also survived by his adoring grandchildren, Amanda and Joseph III (Tommy).

A service to celebrate his life will be held later this summer in Wilbraham, MA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Savannah Hospice House, 1352 Eisenhower Drive, Savannah. GA 31406.

Low Country Cremation Services and Burial is serving the Rae family.
