Joseph R. Simmons, age 87 passed away Friday, April 22, 2016 at Camelia Health and Rehabilitation. Joe was employed with C&S Bank Atlanta and Savannah, Miami Beach First National Bank, South Miami FNB, Hamilton National Bank, Chattanooga, Sun Bank Lake Wales, American National Bank Chattanooga as Vice President and Trust Officer (which became SunTrust Bank).  After retirement he purchased the River’s End Campground at Tybee Island. He managed it until he and his wife, Mary Ann’s health began failing in the late 1990’s. For the past 5 years, he has lived at Camelia Health and Rehabilitation where he made many friends.  He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Ann Thomas Simmons; parents Joe R. Simmons Sr. and Elsie Lee Fountain Simmons; half sister, Madge Magnet Simmons; sister, Joyce Simmons Miller.

He is survived by his sons, Walter (Cheryl) Simmons, Wade Simmons, and Terry Spyers; grandchildren, Joe R. Simmons, II, Laura Simmons and Ashley Spyers; niece, Jamie Miller; great- grandson,  Adler Joseph Simmons ; and special friend and caretaker, Linda Farinholt of Midway.

Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, Thursday, April 28, 2016 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00am Friday, April 29, 2016 at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Savannah with the  Reverend  Javier Layne officiating.

The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Camelia Health and Rehabilitation for their wonderful compassionate care the past few years. We would also like to thank the fine staff at Affinis Hospice for their care and support.
