Savannah
Joseph Zelczak, 74, passed away on the evening of Sunday, August 26, 2018 in his home at Savannah Commons under the care of Hospice Savannah. He was born June 25, 1944 in Savannah to Edward Stanley and Billie Beck Zelczak where he lived most of his life. Joseph was known by his friends as “Captain Joe”. He worked most of his life on the water operating tug boats, vessels and anything that would float; shipping supplies to oil rigs in the Gulf, until his health started failing him. He was a kind man with a big heart and had a love for animals. He was a friend to all who knew him. He was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan who wore something black or red or both on most days. Some of his favorite pastimes were playing the guitar, puzzles, and hanging out and sharing stories with his friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Robert “Dick” Brown and his beloved dog “Dutchess”.
Joseph is survived by his daughters, Kim Gullatt of Kentucky and Stephanie Zelczak of Louisiana; siblings, Lisa Skinner and Bobby Brown of Georgia; and his five grandchildren, Brooke Blackmon, Taylor Gullatt, Paul Bruno, Kirsten Bruno and Paris Bruno.
He did not want a funeral but wished for those that lived in the Savannah area to have a toast in his memory at his favorite local pub, Spanky's.
