Reidsville/Claxton

Claxton GA,

Julie Bass Sikes, age 42, passed away on Monday, March 14, 2022, after injuries sustained in an automobile accident.  She was born in Metter on May 14, 1979 and was reared in Reidsville spending her formative years in the Tattnall County School system.  She would go on to graduate from Tattnall County High School in 1997 before continuing her education and graduating from Georgia Southern University.    She began her career in education in 2012 teaching history at Claxton High School.  To say she was devoted to her students would be an understatement.  Her dedication to her students was evident in not only her classroom mannerisms, but also in her drive to do more for her students.  Outside the classroom she was a volunteer advisor for the Claxton Chamber of Commerce’s Junior Board of Directors.  Additionally, she led the students on various trips overseas and to presidential inaugurations.  Her love to show students her passion for history knew no bounds!  Julie was also the instructional education coach for the high school.  Outside of work, she was an avid Alabama Crimson Tide fan.  In her free time, you could find her working out at the gym or stealing away to the beach.  Above all though, her favored activity was going to watch Cade excel in baseball.  A devoted mother, dedicated educator, and dependable friend; Julie will be deeply missed by all who knew her.  She is a member of Eastside Baptist Church and is preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Carl H. Bass, Sr.

Julie is survived by her children, Macy (Jacob) Barrow and Cade Sikes all of Claxton; Cade’s father and Macy’s step father, Shane Sikes of Claxton; parents, Chuck (Kathy) Bass of Glennville and Gwen (Greg) Strickland of Claxton; paternal grandmother, Katherine Bass of Reidsville; maternal grandmother, Montez DeLoach of Mendes; sisters, Haley (Hunter) Davis of Collins, Misti (Brett) Vandenhouten of Guyton, and Brittany (Justin) Kirkland of Reidsville; granddaughter, McKinley Barrow of Claxton; nieces and nephews, Jayden Lynn, Adalyn Kirkland, Blaire Vandenhouten, Ella Kate Davis, Hadley Vandenhouten, Brantley Davis and Collins Kirkland; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
