J.W. Gay

Mr. J.W. Gay , age 80, passed away Sunday, November 27, 2016 at Evans Memorial Hospital in Claxton after an extended illness.  The Emanuel County native moved to Reidsville as a young boy.  He worked as a logger for many years, eventually retiring from Adams Logging.  Mr. Gay enjoyed fishing, watching TV Westerns, reading about history and attending Bluegrass festivals.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Archie F. and Harvey Lee Durden Gay; his wife of 57 years, Miriam Wilds Gay; brothers, Alonzo, Lariston, Herman, and Morris Gay.

He is survived by his daughter, Lisa (Robert) Powell of Reidsville; grandchildren, Dustin and April Powell both of Reidsville, sisters, Lucille Brown of Reidsville and Lilas Mae Powell of Lyons; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends beginning at 6:00pm on Tuesday from the funeral home.  Graveside funeral services will be conducted 2:00pm Wednesday, November 30, 2016 from the Reidsville City Cemetery with the Reverend Chuck Jonas officiating.
