Kathryn Dale Elders Scott, age 80, while surrounded by family, Journey Building Staff, and Bethany Hospice care givers, passed into the arms of our Lord on February 7, 2025. She was born on June 16, 1944, to Bernice Garland Elders and Tennyson Elders. Dale resided in Reidsville, Georgia, until moving into the Journey Building in Claxton, GA.
While growing up in Reidsville, Georgia, Dale took dance lessons, attended Reidsville Methodist Church, and graduated from Reidsville High School in 1962. After graduating from RHS, she married the love of her life, George E. Scott. Their wedding took place in the Reidsville Methodist Church. She made her own wedding dress and bride’s maid dress. Later, she would make many bride’s maid dresses and a few wedding dresses, and with each stitch, she would pray for each couple’s happiness. She also made and decorated many wedding cakes, birthday cakes, and infant Baptism cakes. She catered as well; oh what a cook! She, also, made dolls to brighten the lives of many children.
Dale was an enthusiastic and gifted cheerleader. Throughout her life, she cheered for her classmates, children, students, co-workers, cousins, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She always loved sharing her team spirit.
Dale graduated from Georgia Southern and taught kindergarten at Reidsville Elementary School. She enjoyed her young students and developed fun-learning activities for them. One of her favorite songs, “What a Wonderful World,” has lines in it which reflect how she felt about life. She especially liked the lines, “I hear babies cry; I watch them grow; they’ll learn much more than I’ll ever know.” She so loved watching her students grow and felt honored to have been their teacher. She worked for the Tattnall County Board of Education for 38 years.
While a member of the Reidsville Methodist Church and the Reidsville United Methodist Church (now Grace Point Reidsville Church), she taught Sunday School, helped with Vacation Bible School, participated in the Methodist Youth Fellowship program, and sang in the choir with her family.
Dale was very supportive of her Reidsville Community. She had been a member of the Jaycettles, the Sorority, the Georgia Retired Teachers’ Association, and the Tattnall County Red Hat Foxy Ladies. She was friendly and full of laughter. She brought special joy to community and church activities. She loved her family, friends, students, community, and Jesus.
Dale is preceded in death by her mother, Bernice Garland Elders; her father, Tennyson Elders; her step-mother, Mavis Elders, her beloved husband, George E. Scott, and her daughter, Kathryn Dawn Scott. She is survived by her step-sister, and husband, Patricia “Boots” and Dean McCall of Barlesville, Oklahoma, and her two sons and daughters-in-law, Tennyson Wade and Luvis Scott of Reidsville, Georgia and Herschel Clinton and Debra Scott of Sandersville, Georgia, as well as her grandchildren, Aaron and Nicole Williams of Hindsville, Arkansas; Paige Scott and Curt Duckworth of Valdosta, Georgia; Draven Scott of San Pedro Sula, Honduras; Isabela Scott of Reidsville, Georgia; Justin Hodges of Sandersville, Georgia; Dustin and Amber Hodges of Lizella, Georgia; Rusty Hodges of Seattle, Washington, Christopher Hodges of Richmond Hill; seven great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and one sister-cousin, Fleta Elders Wood.
