Leland Ray Gregory, Sr.

Mr. Leland R. Gregory, Sr. age 86 passed away Thursday March 7, 2013 at Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Center surrounded by his family.  The Hazlehurst native had lived many years in Savannah.  After retiring from Georgia Ports Authority, Mr. and Mrs. Gregory moved to North Carolina for nine years before moving to Reidsville in 1997.  He was a World War II US Army Veteran and a master mason. Mr. Gregory loved to hunt, fish and go camping.  He was a member of Reidsville Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles J. Gregory and Naomi Norfleet Gregory; and a brother, Floyd Gregory.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Vina Elois Gregory of Reidsville; children, Leland R. Gregory, Jr. of Pembroke, Phyllis and Russell Peth of Meldrim, Calvin and Beth Gregory of Guyton; brothers, Jason and George Gregory both of West Green, GA; sisters, Marie Whitaker, Martha Teston, Ellen Steptoe all of Waycross, Lilly Mae Peacock of Bluffton, SC and Bessie Cline of Valdosta; eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; one great great grandson; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends from 2:00pm to 6:00pm on Sunday March 10, 2013 from the Reidsville Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00pm Monday from the Reidsville Baptist Church with the Reverend Steve Miller officiating.  Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery in Savannah with honors rendered by the US Army.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Memorials may be given to Ogeechee Area Hospice or charity of donor’s choice.
