Lois Marie McBratney Brooks, 92, died peacefully at home on July 25,2024. She was a resident of Savannah, GA where she had recently moved to be near family. Lois lived in many different cities and states throughout her life and viewed each move with optimism and as an opportunity to meet new friends.
Lois was born in Guymon, OK to Paul E. and Maxine E. Shields McBratney. She was the proud granddaughter of pioneers who homesteaded north of Guymon in the early 20th century. Lois attended the Guymon school system and graduated with the class of 1950. She married Bobby Max Brooks on June 4,1950 and the couple moved to Denver, CO where they had three children.
The family followed Bob’s career to four different cities in Tennessee and later to the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. The couple were lifelong members of the United Methodist Church where they were active lay members. Lois led the youth group, taught Sunday school and was a choir director for 8 years. Lois and Bob loved music and sang in the choir of nearly every church they attended. Lois was also an active member of the United Methodist Women where she held leadership roles. She was a comfortable leader and public speaker. Lois held several administrative positions during her lifetime, but her favorite was her last position as an office manager and receptionist for five clinical psychologists. She loved meeting and helping others.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 65 years, Bob Brooks on August 15, 2015; a baby granddaughter, Shalyn Mica Brooks on October 20, 1994; and her brother Charles R. McBratney.
Lois is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Brooks Torrence of Savannah, GA; two sons: Larry M. Brooks and wife Bonita of Nolanville, TX and Stephen J. Brooks and wife Vanessa of Beverly Hills, FL; her eight grandchildren: Chandra Torrence and partner James Coughlin, James Torrence and partner Jessica Baker, Jeremy Brooks and wife Kristi, Shawn Brooks and wife Stacey, Mikala Campbell and husband Russell, Shayna Burns and husband Joshua, Shelvy Bremner and husband Robert, Shyloh Brooks and partner Brandi; and 12 great grandchildren.
