Lois (Dees) Powell

March 5, 1933 — December 21, 2016

Collins,

Lois Dees Powell , age 83, passed away, Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at Optim Medical Center in Reidsville.  The Tattnall County native had lived in Collins all of her life.  She and her husband, Junior, owned and operated Powell’s Grocery in Collins for twenty two years.  She was also a homemaker and a farmer.  She loved to go fishing, working in her yards, and cooking.  She was of the Baptist faith.  Ms. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Willie Berta Dees; step father, Clyde McSwain; husband, Junior Powell; and a grandson, Brian Fort.

She is survived by her children, Gail Fort of Collins, Jean McCumber of Lyons, and Glenn Powell of Collins; three grandchildren; seven great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00pm on Friday, December 23, 2016 from the Chapel of Low Country Cremation and Burial with the funeral services to follow at 3:00pm with the Reverend Chuck Jonas officiating.  Interment will follow in the Anderson Church Cemetery.
