Lona Stewart, age 85, passed away at her residence on Saturday, March 9, 2024, surrounded by her loving children and under the care of Community Hospice. She was born on April 29, 1938, in Montgomery County and had lived in Reidsville most of her life.
Lona was a dedicated individual who graduated from Vidalia High School in 1958. Together with her husband Ralph, she owned and operated Stewart's IGA for over 50 years in Reidsville. Those who knew her will always remember how she was constantly working at the grocery store, embodying strong work ethic and commitment.
Beyond her career, Lona was known for her passion for cooking and generosity towards others. She found joy in preparing meals and feeding anyone who was hungry. Her love for watching Hallmark movies and spending time in the kitchen brought warmth to those around her. She was a member of the Reidsville Baptist Church and Apphia Sunday School Class.
Lona was preceded in death by her parents Lee and Nina Mae Braddy Wilson, her husband Ralph Stewart of 53 years, brother Larry Wilson, and son-in-law William J. Gordon.
She is survived by her children, Gail Gordon of Savannah and Wayne Stewart of Reidsville; siblings, John Paul (Juanita) Wilson of Vidalia and Shelby (Billy) Kramer of Lyons; sister-in-love, Mary Alice Wilder of Vidalia; grandchildren, Beverly (Dave) Lavigne and Dana Gordon; great-grandchildren, Michael Skocz, Kyle Grinde, Brittany (Brandon) Andrae, Jesse Gordon, and Jordan Gordon; as well as great-great-grandchildren Karolina Grinde, Reid Andrae, Cleo Andrae; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends beginning at 6:00pm on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00am on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 from the Chapel of Low Country Cremation and Burial with Reverend Edward Brannen officiating. Interment will follow in the Reidsville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Michael Skocz, Dave Lavigne, Eddie Anderson, Kyle Grinde, Charlie Iddins, and Caleb Iddins
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Apphia Sunday School Class.
