Lucille Gay Brown, age 82, passed away Friday, March 19, 2021 at her residence. She was born in Wadley, GA on December 03, 1938 to Archie and Harvey Leigh Durden Gay and had lived in Tattnall County most of her life. Throughout her career in nursing she was known to be a workaholic. Often times, she would volunteer to cover shifts for others on holidays and weekends so that those with young children could have time off with their kids. Her giving of herself in this manner was important to to her; since she so loved her family and wanted others to to be able to grow into that same feeling. In her free time she would love to go to flea markets. The random finds and hidden treasures there brought her great joy. After the sun went down and she was alone, she would entertain herself for hours with crossword puzzles. She was a member of the Glennville First United Pentecostal Church and is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Billy James Brown; her daughter in law, Sandy Spikes and her siblings, Herman Gay, Larston Gay, Alfonzo Gay, JW Gay, Morris Gay and Lilas Mae Powell.
She is survived by her children, Lamar Spikes, Janet (Allen) Jones and Glenda (Dennis) Durrence all of Reidsville and Dean (Jay) Pittman of Vidalia; stepdaughters, Brenda (Wayne) Bradley of Claxton, Becky (Bobby) Jones of Metter and Teresa (Jay) Stewart of Claxton; 10 grandchildren;29 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00am on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 with the funeral services to follow at 11:00am with the Reverend James Holland officiating. Interment will follow in the Reidsville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Stephen Reynolds, Ray Eason, Randy Jones, Jacob Pittman, Brett Hutcheson and James “Bull” Pearson.
Memorials may be given to The Tommy & Shirley Strickland Cancer Center, 1 Meadows Parkway, Vidalia, GA 30474.
