Mabel F. Abler, age 94, entered the Heavenly gates on November 13, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and warmth that touched all who knew her. Born on May 29, 1930, to Oscar and Emma Rogers on a farm near Reidsville, Mabel was blessed with an outgoing personality and an engaging smile that lit up every room. Her deep Christian faith was a guiding force throughout her life, and her love for Jesus was evident in her kind spirit and devotion to others.
Mabel met Jim Abler, the love of her life in 1954. Together, they embarked on a beautiful journey filled with adventure, as Jim's career in the United States Air Force took them to numerous places, including Florida, North Carolina, California, and the Panama Canal Zone. Through all the moves and changes, Mabel remained by Jim’s side, both as his steadfast companion and partner in joy. They shared a love for dancing and bowling, excelling in both, and their fun-loving, adventurous spirit was cherished by everyone who knew them.
In 1972, Mabel and Jim retired to Orlando, Florida. Never one to sit idle, Mabel would go on to work as a school bus driver and later for the U.S. Census Bureau. After several years, they would make Reidsville their permanent home in order to be closer to Mabel's siblings. Much of their time here was spent fishing at Clark Hill, surrounded by the peace and beauty they so loved.
Mabel was a devoted member of Friendship Baptist Church, where her faith and warmth blessed the lives of her fellow congregants. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Emma Rogers, and her beloved husband, Jim, whom she now joins in eternal rest. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her, as her warmth, kindness, and faith in the Lord touched everyone she met.
Mabel is survived by her children, Rhonda (Steve) Larson of Sandwich, IL, and Tony Abler of Reidsville, GA; her three grandchildren, Stephanie Larson of Rockford, IL, Vicky (Kyle) Huss of Leland, IL, and Jimmy (Shelby) Abler of Claxton, GA; her nine great-grandchildren; and her brother, Eugene Rogers of San Antonio, TX. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and countless friends made along her journey of faith and love.
In honor of Mabel’s life, a private Celebration of Life will be held by her family, and she will be interred in the family plot, reuniting with her beloved Jim once again.
Low Country Cremation & Burial is honored to be serving the Abler family.
