Obituary
Marcus Hughes Nobles, Jr.
age 78 of Glennville
passed away Monday, March 26, 2012 at St. Joseph’s
Hospital in Savannah after a long illness. The Long
County native was raised in the Beard’s Creek community.
He was of the Baptist faith, served in the US Army, graduated
from Georgia Teacher’s College (Georgia Southern) and the
University of Georgia. He worked as a school teacher and
principal and was elected as school superintendent of Long
County. Later, he started and operated several successful small
businesses with his sons. He was predeceased by his parents, Marcus and Letha
Baxter Nobles and a brother, Gerald Edmund Nobles, Sr.
Survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Marcus H. Nobles, III and
Susan Nobles of Glennville, his son, Jason K. Nobles of Glennville; stepson
and daughter-in-law, Tony and Dena Thompson of Metter; sister, Elaine Dreggors
of Glennville; sister-in-law, Nancy Nobles of Ludowici; six grandchildren, Stephanie Tatum,
Elizabeth Tatum, Will Tatum, Nicolas Nobles, Tarah Thompson and Haley Thompson;
several nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation and Funeral Services
Visitation will be 6:00pm-8:00pm Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted 10:00am Thursday, March 29, 2012 from the
Glennville Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with the Reverend Mike
Howard officiating. Interment will follow at Pigot Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.
