Margaret (Mitchell) Kennedy

March 24, 1924 — August 14, 2012

Margaret Mitchell Kennedy , age 88, passed away August 14, 2012, at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Center in Statesboro, Georgia, after an extended illness.   She was born in Treutlen County on March 24, 1924, to John William and Pearl Burns Mitchell.  Margaret lived in Vidalia most of her life, and attended Vidalia City Schools before moving to the Reidsville area in 1944, when she came to work for the Federal Government.  She retired from the Civil Service after 27 years, and received several commendations for outstanding job performance during her tenure.  She was affectionately known to many as “The Draft Board Lady.”  After retirement, she was employed with Kennedy Cablevision, Inc. in Reidsville and also enjoyed working at the Tattnall Chamber of Commerce for many years.  Margaret was a devoted member of the Reidsville United Methodist Church.

Margaret is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, J. Roger Kennedy, Sr.;  daughter, Wynnette Kennedy Portman; son, H. Mitchell Kennedy; and sisters, Julia Snell and Rosmer Branch.

She is survived by son, J. Roger Kennedy, Jr. and daughter-in-law Milly H. Kennedy; grandson, James R. Kennedy, III; granddaughters, Kristie Lafollette and Michelle Irizarry; great grandsons, Jonathan LaFollette and Andrew McDonald.  Several nieces and nephews also survive along with special friends, staff, and employees of North Spring Assisted Living in Claxton, Georgia.

Visitation will begin at 6:00pm Wednesday August 15, 2012 from the Reidsville Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be conducted 11:00am Thursday August 16, 2012 from the Reidsville United Methodist Church with the Reverend Marc Foster and Jimmy Meadows officiating.  Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Cemetery in Vidalia at 2:00pm.  Pallbearers will be Aldrick Hill, Jackie Trim, Billy Snell, Theron Rogers, John Cheney, Ware McCallum, Jim McCallum, and Hamp Meadows.

Memorials may be given to Reidsville United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, PO Box 218 Reidsville, GA 30453 or Ogeechee Area Hospice, PO Box 531, Statesboro, GA 30458.
