Margery Hitch Barroll

Margery Hitch Barroll, 92 of Savannah, GA died peacefully on December 5, 2022. She was the daughter of Robert Mark Hitch, JR. and Margery Fulenwider Hitch. She was also the granddaughter of the late Robert Mark Hitch, mayor of Savannah from 1937-1939.

Born on October 3rd, 1930 in Savannah, Margery attended The Pape School, Emma Willard, Randolph Macon College, and the University of Georgia. She was an active member of The National Society of the Colonial Dames, the Trustees’ Garden Club, and Kappa Kappa Gamma at the University of Georgia.

Margery was married to the late Lawrence Lewis Barroll for 60 years. They spent the 1970s in Chestnut Hill (Phila.) raising their four children. Margery embraced the Chestnut Hill winters and the quietude of the snowy days. A born saleswoman, she sold World Book Encyclopedias and then Doncaster clothes. Margery then started selling houses in Chestnut Hill --- with gusto!

Margery and her family returned to her beloved city of Savannah in the early 1980s, where she continued her real estate career. She and her husband co-founded Barroll & Barroll Realty. Margery had a unique, personal approach when serving her clients. She was sharp and a go-getter yet gentle and kind. She and her clients became lifelong friends and she wrote notes and poems to many of them up until she passed away. She was a devout Christian and an active member in her church. Margery loved her family, friends, poetry, and dogs. She will be remembered for her quick wit, marvelous sense of humor, and her unforgettable laugh!

She is pre-deceased by her husband Lawrence Lewis Barroll and son, Mark Hitch Barroll; survived by sons, Lawrence Lewis Barroll, JR., John D. Bellamy Barroll; daughter, Lillie Lane Barroll Stark (Ted); grandsons, Samuel Bailey Stark, John Lawrence Stark, Charles Edward Stark, granddaughter, Sarah Stark Patti (Jason) and great- grandson, Liam Edward Patti.

Memorial Service to be January 7th, 2023 11:00 AM at Community Bible Church, 1112 East 69th Str. Savannah, Ga. 31404
