Marguerite “Margie” Noleeka Murken Ratliff passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at Evans Memorial Hospital. Marguerite was the youngest daughter of John Henry and Eugenia Miller Murken. She was born on September 12, 1936 in Savannah, GA. She had only one sister, Virginia Murken Atkinson who was 16 years older than her. She was a Chatham County native who attended Catechism Class and was confirmed at the Lutheran Church of the Ascension in downtown Savannah. She was a 1953 graduate of Commercial High School in Savannah. She had a four year degree in psychology that she received after she was married. On September 15, 1954 she married Thomas “Tommy” Braden Ratliff, who along with his brothers was close family friends. They had four children, the oldest who was born in 1959, Benny Lee Harvey Ratliff, Margaret “Maggie” Naomi Ratliff Williams Banks, Steven Patrick Howard and Heze Kire Ratliff. Marguerite also had others that she called her children. After closing her daycare, she went to work in the grocery business, convenience stores and then a secretary. Throughout her life, she attended many different denominations of churches. She was a Christian and she believed in God the Father, the son and the Holy Ghost. She stuck to her Lutheran upbringing however, she went to and became a Baptist. She became a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Glennville and was a member of the Eastern Star. She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas “Tommy” Braden Ratliff; son, Benny Lee Harvey Ratliff.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret “Maggie” Ratliff Banks (Kenny); sons, Heze Kire Ratliff, and Steven Patrick Howard; grandsons, John Henry Williams (Christin), Joe Banks (Valorie) Kenneth Banks, Jr; granddaughters, Jeanette Anjoli’e Ratliff, Amber Marie Banks (Rodrick Flowers); great-grandchildren, Kenneth David Williams; Tyler Chancy (Kristen), Katie Brantley (Will), Walt Banks, Eben Banks, Devin Kornegay, Alexa Futch, Chase Futch, McKayla Banks Roberts and Zoey Banks; great-great grandchildren, Cayden Brantley, Kendall Brantley, Folsom Pound, Gracie Mae Chancy, Grayson Chancy. Several nieces, nephews and a sister-in-law also survive. A longtime special family friend and daughters’ God Father William Henry Connelly of Kingsland, GA. Also survive.
Family will receive friends beginning at 2:00pm on Saturday, December 5, 2020 with funeral services to follow at 3:00pm from the Chapel of Glennville Funeral Home with the Reverends Doug Weisel and Justin Gordon officiating. Graveside services will be held 12:00pm Monday, December 7, 2020 at Oaklawn Cemetery in Charlotte, NC.
