Martha (Woods) Whatley

August 25, 1936 — January 7, 2014

REIDSVILLE

Martha Woods Whatley, age 77, passed away Tuesday, January 07, 2014 at  Community Hospice in Vidalia, GA. She was predeceased by her daughter, Erin Kate Whatley-Hales. Martha was born in Collins, GA and subsequently lived in Atlanta, GA, Carbondale, IL, Monterey, CA, New York, NY, Ponce, Puerto Rico, Miami, FL, and New Bern, NC. Prior to her retirement, Martha was an Administrator with the Weyerhauser North Carolina Foundation. Martha loved to laugh and had a witty sense of humor.  She was a devoted, loving mother and grandmother to her five children, four grandchildren and her beloved dog,Sam. One of her favorite passions in life was watching the University of North Carolina Tarheels play basketball.
She will be remembered for her positive and encouraging attitude in the face of adversity. Martha will be deeply missed by the family members and many friends whose lives she touched.


Martha is survived by her sons, Eric Russell Whatley (Lila) of London, England, Jonathan Walter Whatley of Raleigh, NC, Jeffrey Graham Whatley of Raleigh, NC, and Mark Everett Whatley (Melanie) of Wasilla, Alaska; sisters, June Pearson of Reidsville, GA, Minnie Jones of Collins, GA, Ann Lifer (Charles) of Huntsville, AL, and Thelvia Gaulden (David) of Easton, MD; brothers, Roy Woods (Peggy) of Glennville, GA and Jimmy Woods (Brenda) of Collins, GA.


Special appreciation for their care and concern for Martha during her illness goes to sister, June Pearson and to Maryann White, Reidsville, Georgia, a dear friend. We are also grateful for the entire staff at Community Hospice in Vidalia, Georgia.

Visitation will be held Saturday January 11, 2014 at the Reidsville United Methodist Church beginning at 10:00 am.  Funeral services will immediately follow; beginnning at 11:00 a.m. from the church with the Rev. Marc Foster officiating.

Interment will be in the Reidsville City Cemetery.
