GLENNVILLE, Ga. -- U.S. Army Staff Sgt. (retired) Marvin Bruce Post Jr., 56, of Glennville, Ga., affectionately known as Butch since the day he was born, passed away Saturday, Aug. 16, from cancer. A native of Sanford, N.C., he first moved to Glennville while stationed at Fort Stewart in the early 1990s and called it home ever since, retiring from the military in 2002. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and roaming the woods and waterways of South Georgia. Butch graduated from North Hardin High School in Radcliff, Ky., in 1977, after completing his first three years of high school at Fort Knox High School, where he was in the marching band and junior ROTC. He worked toward his college degree at several universities in the Fort Stewart area, completing his Associate Degree in Applied Science in Management/Supervisory Development at Southeastern Technical College in Vidalia. He was working toward his bachelor’s degree in Business Management at South University in Savannah when he had to drop out because of his illness. He was a past Commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8379, as well as a past Commander of American Legion Post 95, both in Glennville. Previously, he held various elected positions in both organizations during his many years of membership. He loved his family and his dogs, listening to classic country music, tending his garden, and tinkering in his workshop. Like his late father, Marvin B. Post Sr., he could repair anything mechanical and build anything of wood. He exemplified servant leadership and was always willing to help a friend in need. His mischievous grin and twinkling eyes will be missed.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Seacrist Post of Glennville; his daughter, Becky Post Coleman (and husband Peter) of LaGrange, Ky.; two stepsons, Michael Stevens (and fiancé Erica) of Champaign, Ill.; and Bryan “Jamie” Stevens with the U.S. Air Force; his mother, Sarah Carroll Post of Pittsboro, N.C.; a brother, Dan Post (and wife Jolene) of Phenix City, Ala.; two sisters, Carla Post Pasi of Raleigh, N.C., and Audrey Post of Tallahassee, Fla.; two grandsons, Austin and Bryan Coleman of LaGrange; and two step-granddaughters, Alyssa and Chloe Stevens of Champaign.
Graveside funeral services with full military honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014 at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville. No public visitation is scheduled. A memorial service will be held at a later date in North Carolina.
