Mrs. Mary Spikes Groover, age 85, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2022 at her residence under the care of Comfort Care Hospice. She was born in Lyons on December 31, 1936 to Mitchell and Maggie Birdie Kersey and had lived in Tattnall County most of her life. She was a homemaker and a faithful member of the Reidsville Church of God. Mrs. Mary loved to go fishing and cooking for her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Bobby Spikes and Rufus L. “Roy” Groover; daughter, Linda Hutcheson; siblings, Jerlene Holley, Rozina Scott, Bernice Kersey, Cecil Kersey, Felton Kersey, Lula Bell Scarborough and Audrey Burton.
She is survived by her son in law, Rocky Hutcheson of Reidsville; grandchildren, Rob Hutcheson (Misty Turner) and Belinda Hutcheson both of Reidsville; siblings, Mickey Kersey of Lyons and Elton Kersey of Vidalia; great grandchildren, Grace Hutcheson, Chancie Hutcheson, Curtis Curl; great great grandson, Isaac Hutcheson; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends beginning at 6:00pm on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Low Country Cremation and Burial. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00pm Sunday, June 12, 2022 from the Reidsville Church of God with Reverends William Prince and John Wayne Owens officiating. Interment will follow in the Reidsville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ronald Spikes, Donald Spikes, Chris Kersey, Calvin White, Rusty Hutcheson, and Wes Hutcheson.
