Mary Hart Nichols, 73, passed away on February 10, 2025. She was born on November 12, 1951, the daughter of Cecil and Jessie Hart of the Johnson’s Corner community in Toombs County, Georgia. She grew up in Providence Missionary Baptist Church and had an adamant faith in Jesus Christ. She leaned on Him all throughout her life.
Her second-grade teacher once remarked that Mary was “Inclined to Mischief”. This remained an apt descriptor of all of her days. Her family was famous for their antics, and her vibrant personality and quirky sense of humor made her an integral part of the games.
Mary embraced many adventures and loved traveling, to Spain and South America and many places in between. Her greatest journey, though, was that of motherhood. She was an amazing mother to her own children and a second mother to many others, always there to lend a supportive ear. She was always a safe place to land. She adored spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren, who delighted her continually.
She was a member of Cedar Crossing Baptist Church and loved spending time with the Dixie Dumplins. She was a retired correctional officer and insurance agent and maintained a broad web of friends throughout her entire life.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Nichols, her parents, Cecil and Jessie Hart, her sister, Doris Hart, her brother, Sam Hart, and her stepdaughter, Shannon Nichols Bolin.
She is survived by her son Jeb (Gloria) Cowart of Reidsville, her daughter DuAnn (Lee) Davis of Reidsville, her stepdaughter Jessica (Charles) Haller of Riverside, Ohio, her brother, Jones (Susan) Hart of Vidalia, Seven Grandchildren, Mason Cowart, Ian Cowart, Cecilia Davis, Trip Davis, and Marina Davis, all of Reidsville, Juliana (Lacy) Haller, of Tipp City, Ohio, and Braymon (Megan) Murphy of West Jordan, Utah, as well as a great granddaughter, Cassiopeia Murphy, and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Her services will be held at the chapel of Low Country Cremation and Burial in Reidsville on Thursday, February 13, 2025, with visitation to begin at 2:00 p.m. and the memorial service to begin at 3:00 p.m. with the Reverend Reece Mincey officiating. Graveside services will follow immediately thereafter at Providence Missionary Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Hart, Logan Hart, Bee Hart, Herschel Hart, Jason Harvill, and Billy Murray. Honorary pallbearers will be the Dixie Dumplins.
Low Country Cremation and Burial has the honor to serve the family of Ms. Mary Hart Nichols.
