Reidsville,
Mary M. Stephens Helland, age 89, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2018 at the Community Hospice House surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Nahunta on December 18, 1928 to Jasper Efram and Georgia Cooper Morgan and lived in Charlton County most her life. She moved to Reidsville in 2001. She had worked many years in the restaurant industry for many years and while in Reidsville she worked for the Tattnall Journal. Mrs. Mary loved to work in her flowers but her favorite pastime was cooking and being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She never met a stranger and was known as Granny Mary by a lot of people. She was member of the Reidsville Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, CT “Steve” Stephens and Wayne Helland; children, Wayman Stephens and Frances Stephens Parks; grandchildren, Michael Harvey and Shannon Lutrell; siblings, Shelder Morgan, Bill Morgan, Ann Young, Merle Clark, Ethel Stanfield, Vina Lee Stanfield, Mae Branch, George Morgan and Allen Morgan.
She is survived by her children, Charles (JoAnne) Stephens of Louiville, KY, Richard (Kathy) Stephens of Bonita Springs, FL, Wanda (Bob) Sandefur of Vidalia, Smitty (Pat) Stephens of Panama City, FL, and Lillian (Joe) Durrence of Reidsville; 16 grandchildren; thirty seven great grandchildren; special grandchildren, Joe Eddie Beasley, Luman Beasley, Greg Beasley, Jimmy Beasley, John Beasley, Rex Beasley, Sharon Beasley Vanzant, and Kim Beasley Todd; special caregivers, Meisha Chawers, Mary Jones, Rossie Smith, and Katelin Rapp; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends beginning at 6:00pm on Wednesday from the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00am Thursday from the Chapel of Low Country Cremation and Burial with the Rev. Dr. Chuck Jonas officiating. Interment will follow at Pineview Cemetery at 3:30pm in Folkston.
Pallbearers will be JT Stephens, Ashley Durrence, Derek Stephens, Brandon Stephens, Jamie Stephens, Dusty West, Slater West, and Taylor Harvey.
Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of the Tattnall Journal.
Memorials may be given to Community Hospice Foundation, 904 Mt. Vernon Highway, Vidalia, GA 30474, or the Reidsville Baptist Church.
