Ms. Mary Shuptrine Tootle was born December 27, 1914 to John S. Shuptrine Jr. and Maggie Wood Shuptrine in the Taylor’s Creek Community of Liberty County GA. She died at the age of 98 on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, after spending several happy years at North Spring Assisted Living Center in Claxton GA. The 1931 graduate of Bradwell Institute in Hinesville attended business schools in both Jacksonville FL and Savannah GA. Her professional career began as the first full time employee of Canoochee Electric Membership Cooperative, being hired in 1938; where she served as bookkeeper until her retirement in 1981. Throughout her career, she enjoyed and cherished her relationships with both co-workers and the many customers she was honored to serve. Ms. Tootle was a member of the Reidsville United Methodist Church, Tommy Thompson Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women, and the Administrative Board. In addition, she was a member and past regent of General Josiah Tattnall Chapter of The D.A.R., VFW Auxilliary, Taylor’s Creek Cemetery Association, Georgia Salzburger Society, and the Reidsville Garden Club.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John S Shuptrine Jr. and Maggie Wood Shuptrine; husband Leslie K. Tootle; brothers Daniel W. Shuptrine, John S. Shuptrine III, George C. Shuptrine, and Fred Shuptrine; and sister Lois S. Hinchey. She is survived by her daughters Libby (George) Krietemeyer of Dothan AL and Patty Tootle of Reidsville GA; 2 grandchildren Kimberly Krietemeyer of Atlanta GA and Stephen Krietemeyer of Troy AL; sister Chris McLeroy of Riverdale GA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, including a special cousin, Winona Jordan Shuman.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 29, 2013 beginning at 5:00 p.m. from the Reidsville Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 30, 2013 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Reidsville United Methodist Church with Rev. Marc Foster officiating. Burial will follow at the Reidsville City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to either Reidsville United Methodist Church Building Fund, Ogeechee Area Hospice, or Canoochee Electric Membership Foundation for the Mary Shuptrine Tootle Scholarship Fund.
