Mattie E. (Altman) Cobb

September 14, 1922 — November 5, 2017

Reidsville GA,

Mattie E. Cobb, age 95, passed away peacefully at her home on November 5, 2017 surrounded by her loving family.  The Brantley County native lived for her family.  She was wed early in life, and as such, devoting herself to caring for her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.  During her life, she was a witness to and could recount a vast amount of history.  A child during the great depression, a teen during the start of World War 2, and an witness to man’s first walk on the moon she had no shortage of life lessons to draw on to impart on her children.  Above anything else in her life, was her love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus.  She was an active member of Believer’s Church in Reidsville.  Her only hobby was ensuring that her hair was always “fixed”.  There are no ends to which she would not go to accomplish this mission.  Including making her granddaughter who was in active labor stop her at the beauty parlor and venturing out during a hurricane; proving that high water, nor broke water would prevent her from having fabulous hair.  Mattie is preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Henry C. Cobb and a grandson, Curtis Perry Claxton.

Left to cherish fond memories are her son, Wayne (Laura) Cobb of Stockbridge; daughters, Linda Rose Cobb of Winder GA, Jeaneene Burell of Reidsville, and Nancy Murphy of Tifton; 3 sisters; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family and friends also survive.
