Mickey L. Franklin, age 70, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on November 1, 2023. He was born in Augusta, Georgia on June 9, 1953 to Nicholas Charles and Bertha Barnard Franklin and lived in Reidsville most of his life. Mickey had several different occupations. He worked as a lineman with Pike, as a cable man with Kennedy Cable, as a salesman with the Lance cracker company, as a correctional officer with the Georgia Department of Corrections, as a referee for local sports games, and as a crane rigger working shut downs with BE&K/KBR Construction. In his younger years, he enjoyed water skiing, he was a member of the Reidsville Jaycees, and he liked playing football, basketball, and softball. He also enjoyed hunting, playing cards, and supporting his favorite sports teams: The Falcons, the Atlanta Braves, and the Georgia Bulldogs. Mickey is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Owen Charles Franklin, Sr. and Nell Franklin Kennedy, and a step son, Lance Lindsay.
He is survived by his wife of twenty years, Cheryl Franklin, of Reidsville; his children, Jennifer (Lee) Bacon, Melissa (Sean) Miller all of Reidsville and Justin (Megan) Franklin of Rincon; stepdaughters, Dana Lindsay and Lisa (Steven) Steedley all of Reidsville; brother, Hubert Franklin of Reidsville; grandchildren, Julie and Emma Bacon, Nick, Megan, and Katie Miller, Sydney Franklin, Christian Moseley, Mariah (Daniel) Andrews, Lane Moseley, Tyler, Trent, Landon and Jaquelyn Lindsay, Jaden, Demi, Marley, and Kaz Girtman; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends beginning at 6:00 pm on Friday, December 1, 2023 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 2, 2023 from the Chapel of Low Country Cremation and Burial with the Dr. Charles Jonas officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Michael Anderson, Daniel Andrews, Dennis Harden, Nick Miller, Lane Moseley, and Jerry Powell.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Jasper Crane, Christopher Reid, Shane Sikes, and Shawn Sikes.
