Mike Shay

Mike Shay, age 63 passed away on July 14, 2024 while in Poland for work.  Born on May 28, 1961, in Lakeland, FL, Mike had lived in Glennville most of his life.

Having served in the United States Marines and the Florida Air National Guard, Mike embodied the values of duty and honor throughout his life. His passion for mechanics took him to places like Afghanistan, Kuwait, Iraq, and Poland, as he was a contractor for the Department of Defense.

Described as someone who always spoke his mind, even when it was not what others wanted to hear, Mike had a heart that bent over backward to help those around him. His dedication extended beyond his professional life into his personal interests, particularly fishing and hunting, which brought him moments of joy and peace.

He was of the Baptist faith and is preceded in death by his father, Wendell Shay and a grandson, Sutton Haines.

He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Jo Lynn Shay of Glennville; his mother Carolyn Shay of Orange Park, FL; his children Jamie (Ashley) Shay of Glennville, Josi (Brad) Wright of Quitman, Justin (Linda) Shay of Cobbtown, Jesse (Ariana) Shay of Glennville, and Josie Shay of Statesboro; his siblings Terry (Lisa) Shay of Lake City, FL, and Nancy (Philip) Jordan of Orange Park, FL; 13 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews

The family will receive friends beginning at 6:00pm on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at the funeral home.  Funeral services will be conducted 12:00pm on Thursday, August 8, 2024 from the Chapel of Glennville Funeral Home with Rev. Bryan Anderson officiating.  Interment will follow in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jami Shay, Jesse Shay, Justin Shay, Patrick Sikes, Lee Oglesby, and Paul Williams

In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
