Mikel Massey Sr.

Mikel Massey Sr., age 82, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Georgia Hospice Care. He was born in Claxton on June 21, 1942 to Quincey and Bertie Lou Sapp Massey and had lived in Glennville for the past 45 years. Mikel retired after 39 years of service as the feed mill manager at the Claxton Poultry. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mikel attended the Reidsville Church of God and was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Melissa “Missy” Massey; his siblings, Clarence Massey, Randy Massey, Bobby Massey, Lois Smith, Betty Lane, Frances Tippins and Shirley Strickland.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 1/2 years, Marie Massey of Glennville; his children, Angela (Matt) Turner, Debra Waters and Mikel Massey, Jr all of Glennville; sister, Kay (Don) Jarriel of Collins; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 1 great- great granddaughter several nieces and nephews

The family will receive friends on Thursday September 5, 2024, beginning at 4:00pm with the funeral services to follow at 5:00pm from the Chapel of the Glennville Funeral Home with Reverend William Prince officiating. Interment will be in the Glennville City Cemtery.

Mikel’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
