Collins GA,
Mildred Anderson passed away peacefully the morning of July 19, 2019 after an extended illness. She was born the seventh of eight children on November 5, 1939. She is preceded in death by her husband Calvin Anderson; her parents Thomas Eugene Akins and Carolie Mulling Akins; and siblings: Doris Akins Lanigan, Henry Akins, Blanche Akins Lanigan, Zelda Akins Slomer, Inez Akins Davis, and J.T. Akins. She is survived by her daughter Kimberly Anderson Brinson of Collins, Georgia, her grandsons Joshua Brinson-Martin (James) of Charleston, South Carolina, Matthew Brinson of Collins, Georgia, and Brett Brinson (Dale) of Pulaski, Georgia, her great-granddaughter Lacey Brinson (Dale and Brett) of Pulaski, Georgia, and sister Cleo Akins Jacobs (Jerry) of Tyrone, Georgia.
She lived the majority of her childhood in Cobbtown, Georgia and attended Collins High School where she graduated in 1957. She married the love of her life on June 9, 1957 and remained married until his death fifty-seven years later. They raised their family and lived in Collins, Georgia for all of their married life. In addition to her immediate family she loved spending time with her large extended family and church family. She was a wonderful cook and thoroughly enjoyed cooking large meals for Sunday Dinner, family reunions, and homecomings. Her dishes were always crowd favorites.
She was a born-again Christian for almost all of her adult life and would tell the story of her salvation and witness to anyone that would listen. She enjoyed being active in church and taught Sunday school for over twenty-five years and loved being a student of God’s word. She worked as a factory worker and owned Mildred’s Fried Chicken for a number of years until being forced to retire after suffering a stroke in 1985. Even after being forced into a wheelchair and unable to visit family and church members as she had in the past, she kept the telephone line busy calling, encouraging, and checking on her family and friends. She was a fervent intercessory prayer warrior that felt the burden for others and helped them carry it.
She was a doting mother and grandmother that will be sorely missed.
