Mildred (Padgett) Spence

August 27, 1942 — May 31, 2020

Reidsville

Reidsville, GA

Sister Mildred Padgett Spence, age 77, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2020 at Optim Medical Center in Reidsville.  She was born in Reidsville on August 27, 1942 to James Henry and Annie Lois Padgett.  In 1961 she was completing her Senior year at Reidsville High School and contemplating her future when she wed, her husband, Larry in April.  Mildred would go on to graduate the next month as the pair set out on their futures, together.  After high school, she was determined to help her family live the American dream and she would go on to work at Argo Mills, at Head Start as a teacher, and as a social worker with Concerted Services.  Her two latter professions certainly fit her, as she had a heart for serving others.  As a member of Lighthouse Pentecostal Holiness Church, Sister Mildred was the Biblical example on being the Lord’s hands and feet.  Whether it was decorating the church for an upcoming event, cooking for a person in need, putting together gifts to acknowledge special days (Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Graduation, ect), or serving whatever need the Lord laid at her feet; Sister Mildred was always willing to fill the need.  Perhaps her biggest asset in her assistance to others was her steadfast belief in the power of prayer.  No matter the need, Sister Mildred would take the needs of others in supplication to the Rock of Ages and the Prince of Peace; seeing His power presented in the lives of others.  Although throughout her life she held many titles, the ones that gave her the most pride was that of Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother.  A woman that placed her trust in the Lord above, she is now more alive than she has ever been!  For it is only thru Earthly losses that we can know Heaven’s gain;  her family and friends rejoice in the love she leaves in each of their hearts.
She is preceded in death by her parents; son, James Leslie Spence and a brother, William Padgett.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Brother Larry Lee Spence of Reidsville; children, Larry Lee Spence, Jr. of CA, Millicent (Anson) Anderson of Reidsville, Freda (Marty) Schrier of FL, Mary Ann Oliver of Collins, and Tabitha Faye (Lonnie) Register of Hull, GA; sisters, Queen Jackson of Fort Valley, Johnny Will Langrick and Lizzie Threat both of FL; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00am on Thursday, June 4, 2020 at the Lighthouse Pentecostal Holiness Church with the funeral services to follow at 1:00pm with the Reverends Greg Smith and William Prince officiating.  Interment will follow in the Reidsville City Cemetery.
