Mr. Jerrel Baker, age 80, of Glennville, GA passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017. He was born on August 15, 1936, in Mendes, GA to "Boy" and Ruby Kicklighter Baker. He was a 1955 graduate of Glennville High School. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran serving from 1955 to 1959. He earned the rank of Master Sergeant with the Georgia Air National Guard, with 29 years of service. During this time, he was awarded the 1982 Technician Of The Year. After retiring, he became a member of The Air National Guard , Safang. He was a retired fireman for the Savannah International Airport and lifetime member of the VFW Post 7764 in Reidsville, GA. As a Director of the Savannah Bowling Association, he and fellow guardsman, Dub Strickland, won the 25th annual Savannah Doubles Tournament. Later in life, he enjoyed playing in many golf tournaments with fellow guardsmen. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, J.D., Earl, and Herbert Baker; sisters, Warnell, Bonnie, Myrtle, and Monice.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Bobby Ivie Kicklighter Baker of Glennville; daughters, Debra (Bill) Lynne and Lisa (John) Bright all of Glennville, Melinda (Randy) Hodges of Claxton, GA; son Bryan (Anita) Baker of Glennville; seven grandchildren, Zack (Julie) Hodges, Darby (Nicole) Hodges, Christopher (Tiffany) Avant, Jennifer (Joseph) Holloway, Ivie Gulbrandson, Erica Gulbrandson and Cody Baker; seven great- grandchildren, Porter and Anderson Hodges, Gracie, Emma and Clara Hodges, Elena and J.B. Holloway. He is also survived by sisters, Nancile (J.J.) O'Connor of Fernandina Beach, FL, Jackie (Bobby) O'Neal of Hinesville, GA, and Anglyn Anderson of Reidsville, GA; sister-in-law, Grace Baker of Mendes, GA., many nieces, nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends from 1:00pm to 3:00pm on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at the Loves Chapel Primitive Baptist Church with the funeral services to follow at 3:00pm with the Rev. David Daus officiating. Interment will follow in the Glennville City Cemetery with full military honors.
