Ned Kirkland, age 86, passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Pine Pointe Hospice in Macon surrounded by his family. Enlisting right after graduation, Ned joined the United States Air Force. In his 20 years of service to this country; he saw tours in both Korea during the Korean conflict and in Vietnam. Upon his retirement, he sat out to begin his 2nd career, the United States Postal Service and ultimately, retiring for the 2nd time in his life. He was a devoted family man who was always happiest when he had his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren around. Additionally he was a Master Mason and member of the Mickey Fuller Lodge #720 in Byron. Late in his life he found a special friendship and companion in his dog, Tish. Above everything else in his life, his love for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ was most important to him. He served the Lord locally at Lizella Baptist Church where he was a member for many years. Mr. Kirkland is preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Kirkland and a granddaughter, Lindsey Bell.
Left to cherish fond memories are his son, Dale (Regina) Kirkland of Macon; daughters, Lisa K (Keith) Bell of Murphy NC and Atina K. (Darrell) Williams of Macon; a sister, Erin Gilbert of Barnesville; 2 grandchildren, Melissa (Chase) Hinson of Bonham TX and Jackson Williams of Macon; 2 great grandchildren, Brady and Noah Hinson of Bonham TX, numerous nieces and nephews, other family, and friends also survive.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 16, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the chapel of Pine Pointe Hospice in Macon. Graveside funeral services will be held on Monday, July 17, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Lake Cemetery in Metter GA with full military honors rendered by the United States Air Force.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to the" Lindsey Bell Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o Lizella Baptist Church 2950 South Lizella Road Lizella GA 31052.
