Nellie Miller Nobles died Thursday Nov. 28. She was 73. Nell was born in Jeff Davis County and attended Brooker-Denton grade school and later Hazlehurst High School. She graduated from Wayne County High in Jesup in 1959 and was proud of her academic accomplishments particularly her membership in the Beta Club. In the 1960’s she worked for the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce and later for the Ford Motor Company in Atlanta where she was recognized for excellent service. She later worked as a teacher’s aide in the Long County and Liberty County school systems while raising her family. She enjoyed sewing and was an accomplished quilt maker. She also enjoyed gardening and growing fruit trees. She studied politics and contributed in many ways to several political races and candidates. She loved her grandchildren and delighted in spending time with them. She was predeceased by her father Farris F. Miller of Hazlehurst, her brother Buddy Miller of Hazlehurst and her husband Hughes Nobles Jr. of Glennville.
She is survived by her sons, Jason Nobles of Glennville, Tony Thompson and Dena B. Thompson of Metter, Marcus (Marc) Hughes Nobles III and Susan S. Nobles of Glennville, father of her son Tony, Aubrey Thompson of Baxley, her mother Vera Cain Miller of Hazlehurst, brothers Frank Miller (Dianne), Noah Miller (Anne), Vernon Miller (Dianne), Ben Miller, Allen Miller, Avin Miller (Linda) , sisters Ruby M. Blanton (Bobby), Delora M. Warnock, Alice Dowling, Martha Longwith, Leona Burnsed (Wyndell), Patsy Poole, grandchildren Tarah Thompson, Haley Thompson and Nicholas Nobles and several nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by Linda Findley LPN and the staff of the Griffin House in Claxton.
Funeral services will be conducted 3:00pm Sunday, December 1, 2013 from the Glennville Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson with the family receiving friends beginning at 1:30pm. Interment will follow in the Pigot Branch Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery south of Glennville on Highway 301.
