Nestor Velasquez, age 74, passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2020 at Comfort Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation in Wadley. The native of Puerto Rico was a proud American patriot. Early in his life he joined the United States Army where he rose to the rank of Master Sergeant. During his years of dedicated service to the country, he would serve two tours in Vietnam where he was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star with cluster among other merit awards. After 26 years in the Army, he retired and moved to Tattnall County. Never one to sit idle, Nestor then embarked on his 2nd career at Claxton Poultry in the Human Resources department. After many years at Claxton Poultry, he would go on to retire and spend more time dedicated to several of his favorite pass times. Those pass times included riding his motorcycle, collecting firearms, and going to the firing range for target practice. Nestor was always a faith filled man, and he was of the Catholic faith. He was also a Freemason dedicated to the fraternal order. Nestor led a life of commitment and dedication in both his profession and personal affairs; a man whose word was his bond. His life is an example by which others should strive for and he will be deeply missed. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alphonso and Benita Padilla-Cruz.
