Nora Breland Morris “Mimmie”, 80, passed away at home surrounded by her loved ones, and was peacefully called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Sunday, January 3, 2016 after a battle with cancer. Mrs. Morris was born May 18, 1935, and was the daughter of the late Ethridge and Maggie Breland. She was a resident of Glynn County and a charter member of Blythe Island Baptist. Mrs. Morris was the manager of Ameris Gas (formerly Brunswick Gas) for over 30 years. Mrs. Morris’ life goal was to put God first, Family, and the needs of others before her own. Upon retirement “Mimmie” dedicated most of her time in the service of others. She volunteered for many charities including The American Cancer Society, Amity House, CMAP, Safe Harbor, First Steps, Marty Lyons, Care Net, Golden Isle Children’s Center, Seafarer’s House, The Sparrows Nest, Karen’s House of Hope, United Way, Prevent Child Abuse, Chamber of Commerce, Manna House, and American Heart Association.
She was a member and officer of the American Business Women’s Association. Mrs. Morris has been awarded numerous times over the years including Volunteer of The Year by the Golden Isles Children’s Center, Prevent Child Abuse, and United Way of Coastal Georgia. She also volunteered for many positions at her home church, Blythe Island Baptist. Mrs. Morris was the wife of the late Henry Morris.
She is survived by her 3 children, Louise Morris Lane (the late Robert Lane), Linda Morris Grimes (William Grimes), and Richard Lee Morris. Her 5 grandchildren, Michelle Lane Bessing (Vernon), Angela Grimes, Melissa Lane Toler (James “Buddy”), Thomas Grimes (Dawn), and Robert Lane (Victoria). She also has 14 great- grandchildren and 5 great- great grandchildren.
Mrs. Morris affectionately known as “Mimmie” will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and associates who had the honor of knowing and loving her. We all shall cherish the wonderful memories we have of her never-ending love, care, concern, and provision for anyone in need. She especially loved working on behalf of children and battered women. Her legacy would be for everyone that she ever encouraged or inspired to “Pay it Forward” to the service of God and anyone in need.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 2:00pm at Blythe Island Baptist Church with visitation from 1:00-2:00pm at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, Amity House, Care Net, Faith Works, and Golden Isles Children’s Center.
The family would like to thank Dr. Moore’s, Dr. Cheong & Staff, Hospice of The Golden Isles, Dr. Michael Butler, Dr. Colette Lee-Lewis, and the staff at the Cancer Care Center. A Special Thank You to all family, friends, and associates for your love for our precious Mother “Mimmie”, your prayers, phone calls, cards and letters, God Bless you all.
