Rincon
Owen Dale Teel, Sr., age 91, passed peacefully at home in Rincon, GA surrounded by his family on February 1, 2019. Dale, as he was known growing up, was born in Beckley, WV on September 22, 1927 to Quince Lee Teel and Laura Mae Pittman Teel. He was one of 7 children growing up in Sprague, WV. Dale's family owned the Teel Plant Farm, he attended the Teel School, named for his grandfather whom donated the land it resided upon. Dale was known to help on the farm, spending time with his best friend Roy, visiting his grandparents, and working at the local bowling alley as a pin setter. At the age of 17, Dale moved to Brunswick, GA to work in the shipyards to participate in the war efforts. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps Service where he quickly made Sergeant. Dale was a radio mechanic that served 3 years in the Philippines during the 2nd World War; he was honorably discharged in 1948 and returned home to Sprague.
Dale met and married Carolyn Burks Teel in 1951. They raised a son, Owen Jr. and Carolyn's daughter, Ellen. They moved to Baltimore, MD shortly after where he spent his working life as a body and fender mechanic, retiring in 1992.
In 1976, Owen as he was then known, met Cathy Neal, who became his significant other until Cathy's passing in 2016.They enjoyed fishing, camping, and boating. Owen spent many weekends fishing on the Chesapeake Bay with his son, Owen, daughter-in-law, and granddaughters.
Owen is survived by his son Owen, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Mary Jane, with whom he lived in Rincon, GA. Granddaughter, Megan Hollandsworth, her husband, Jacob and great-granddaughters, Sydni and Loralei of Bluffton, SC, Granddaughter Leslie Teel and great-granddaughter, Ava of Mt. Airy, NC. Also surviving is Ellen Deitrich, her husband Phillip, their son Andrew and daughter Kimberly and 5 grandchildren. Very dear to Owen was the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of Neola Catherine Neal; Ralph and Jan Neal and family and John and Barbara Neal and family of Baltimore, MD.
Owen was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Burks Teel, November 1973; significant other Cathy Neal 2016; daughter Marion 1952; siblings Maldon, James Lowell, Gurthel, Helen, Sue and their spouses; his father, Quince Lee Teel 1937 and his mother, Laura Mae Pittman Teel 1974.
Special thanks from Owen's immediate family to the many cousins, nieces, and nephews for their support in this difficult time. Thank you to Affinis Hospice for providing a way for Owen to spend his last days surrounded by his family and in his own home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Community Health Foundation, 1005 Boulder Drive, Gray, GA 31032 and designate Fund: Affinis Hospice.
