Bloomingdale
Patricia Ann Vanatta, 69, of Bloomingdale, GA, passed away on November 24, 2014 at St. Joseph's hospital in Savannah, GA after a brief illness. She was born December 18, 1944 in Ardmore, Oklahoma to the late Harry Worth and Patti Jane Vanatta.
She is survived by her children, Marc Peck, Tami (Dave) Emig, and Lynne Vanatta; her grandchildren Katy (Mitchell) Guthrie, Patti Cowling, Michael Cowling, Ross Archer, Sam Archer, Tricia Mae Peck, and Eric Peck; great grandchildren Braegan Guthrie and Kellan Guthrie; her siblings, Lee (Amy) Vanatta, Kay (Don) Vanatta, Mike Vanatta, and Hal Vanatta; extended family members Sophia Panos and Laura Leatherwood; many nieces and nephews; a large array of "adopted" children and grandchildren; and a number of wonderful friends who could always count on her kindness, love, and caring.
Pat was an amazing mother who raised her children with incredible love, commitment, and strength. She also was the loving "mom" to many pets over the years. She had a special bond with her grandchildren, and spent every available moment with them. She dedicated her life to a career in education, and spent the majority of that time devoted to teaching special education children in Prince George Schools. She loved her work and especially her students over the years, and always went above and beyond to give them every chance for an excellent education. She had a variety of interests including crafting, painting, reading, and genealogy, which she had a special passion for.
A celebration of her life will be planned in the future. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her honor to groups like the ASPCA, the World Wildlife Fund, or any organization that helps special needs children, as these were the causes that mattered most to her. Her family would also like to ask that if Pat did some kindness for you along the way, please pay that kindness forward to someone else in their time of need. That spirit is one Pat truly lived by and would very much appreciate. And hug your family extra today and enjoy the little moments. Those little moments become the big moments.
