Phyllis Nadine Thompson, age 60, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 24, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family under the loving care of Community Hospice. Born to Ralph and Peggy (Berryhill) Thompson, she was raised on a farm, embracing the values of hard work, resilience, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life. A country girl at heart, Phyllis carried these lessons with her throughout her life, shaping the way she loved and cared for those around her.
As a young girl, she adored her grandmother, who became a guiding force in her life. That same warmth and devotion were evident in the way she nurtured her children and grandchildren, making family the center of her world.
Phyllis had a passion for cooking, with a particular love for Italian cuisine. Garlic was her signature ingredient, and she never settled for shortcuts—only fresh cloves, never "jarlic." Her dishes, always made with love, brought comfort to those lucky enough to sit at her table.
For over 20 years, Phyllis was a dedicated employee of Wal-Mart, where her hardworking nature and sharp wit made her a memorable presence and earned her the position as General Manager of Retail Operations. She started each day with an extra-large coffee, fueling the feisty spirit that those who knew her best came to love. Whether she was playfully talking “trash” or sharing a laugh, she had a way of bringing joy to any conversation—a skill, perhaps, honed by being the mother of three boys.
Her heart belonged to her grandchildren, whom she adored beyond measure. She also shared a special bond with her beloved dog, Gabby, who was her faithful companion.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her mother, her husband James H. Vincent, her beloved sister, Missy Swindell, who passed away far too soon; and her grandchild, Devin Bradish.
Left to cherish a lifetime of memories are her three sons, Phillip Thompson of Pembroke, John (LaDonna) Thompson of Reidsville, and Thomas (Harriet Braddish) Vincent of Pembroke; eight grandchildren, Shannon Farrer, Brianna Farrer, Aniston Farrer, Starla Vincent, Thomas Vincent, Jr., Suzanna Braddish, Heather Braddish, and Leonard Braddish; one brother; three sisters; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 1, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Low Country Cremation & Burial. A Celebration of Life will follow beginning at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel, with Rev. Dr. Chuck Jonas officiating. Services will conclude at the chapel.
