PV2 Courtney Wilma Shields was born to Schina McKinnon and Willie Shields on June 20, 2000. She was called home of April 26, 2019. She is survived by her sister Erika McKinnon and her brother Antoine Brown. Courtney was educated at Reidsville Elementary School and Henry Lackey High School of Indian Head, MD. She loved sports and was inspired by JROTC to join the U.S. Army after graduating from high school. Courtney joined the U.S. Army in 2017. She was member of Temple of Praise Church in Washington, DC., and loved to worship there.
Courtney is also survived by her maternal grandparents, Ellis (Annette) McKinnon of Reidsville, GA, and preceded in death by her grandmother Wilma Clay, who was called home in December of 1988. Her paternal grandparents Barbara (late Willie) Shields of Washington, DC, aunts 1SG Retired Linda (SFC Retired Willie) Holloway of Fayetteville, NC, Khristen (Andrew) Wilson of Tuscaloosa , AL, uncles, Ellis Jr.(Linda) of Tuscaloosa, AL, Byron Allen of Reidsville, GA, Bobby (Ebony) Shields of National Harbor, MD, Kishawn Williams of Tuscaloosa. She also leaves a host of cousins and close family friends to mourn.
Courtney was passionate about life. She was loved by all who knew her and she touched us all in her very own special way. She will be remembered as a sweet caring and determined young lady. Although she is not here physically, she is, and will be in our hearts forever.
The family will receive friends beginning at 6:00pm on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00am on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at the Chapel of Low Country Cremation and Burial. Interment will full military honors with be at Sandhill Cemetery.
