Quinton Colwell

Deacon Quinton Colwell was born to Vitta Lou Smith and Harmon “Tinsie” Colwell on July 24, 1947 and passed away on Sunday February 24, 2019 at his home. He was one of several siblings of that union. He was preceded in death by his brothers William “Bill/Bope”, Robert “Bob” and Raymond “Peanut”

Quinton has a living sister Rebekah Barron from his father’s second marriage. A maternal living aunt Ms. Ruby Hall of Reidsville, and one uncle Curtis Mosley of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.Quinton was educated at the Tattnall Industrial High School in which he told stories of being inspired and taught by Mr. John Kunney. He was a proud member of the class of 1965 and associated with his classmates until his death.

Quinton was joined in marriage to Dionne Jackson September 18, 1975. Within this marriage, he gained brothers-in-law Randy, Larry, Jeffery(Barbara), best friend Michael(Brenda)Johnson, Darrell(Sherrie), Joe (Clarissa), Jimmy(Gloria) and last but not least Alvin Jackson who was with him until his death. Sisters-in-law Jackie Brown, Linda Johnson, Regina Brown, and Phyllis Allen all whom he loved dearly.

Being a father, was Quinton’s greatest legacy. Quinton  and Dionne loved and raised together Nakia “Nikki” Colwell and Nivea “Toot” Jackson, Lamar Edwards, and Cherrie Wright.  From his Children Quinton has 8 grandchildren Ashley, Vickie, Johnny, Darius, Quinton, Dionna, Olivea, and Jaylon. Roxanne, LaWanda,  Lee (Linda), William (Jr), Diane(Dale), Lugreta (Sammy) were his nieces and nephews who were more like his children and helped care for them til his death. He also leaves to mourn a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Thursday February 28, 2019 at Low Country Cremation and Burial.  Funeral services will conducted 11:00am, March 1, 2019 from the Springfield Missionary Baptist Church.  Mr. Colwell will lie in state beginning at 9:00am at the Church.  Interment will follow the services in the Sandhill Cemetery.
